SBD Drilling is a privately owned group of companies, based in Perth, Western Australia. The Executive and Senior Management teams have extensive and diverse experience in mining, drilling operations, corporate governance, accounting and finance, commodity markets and African diplomatic relations.

Graham is a co-founder of SBD Drilling’s business in Australia and West Africa. He has been involved in an advisory role to various companies in the mining industry since the mid 1980’s and has been directly involved in the African drilling industry since 2001, when he was responsible for SBD Drilling Guinea mobilising their first rig to the Simandou iron ore project.
Founder and Executive Director
Graham is a former corporate finance partner of Ernst & Young. During his period with Ernst & Young, Graham was the project leader of a wide variety of corporate advisory assignments, from small to large public and private companies in many different industries. He has held non-executive Chairman roles in several publicly listed companies, an Executive Director and subsequently Managing Director role in a publicly listed company, as well as being Chief Executive Officer of two large private companies.
Graham has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University, is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and FINSIA.
In addition to his role at SBD Drilling, Graham is currently the Managing Director of Phase Change Products Pty Ltd and the specialist corporate advisory firm, Norvest Corporate Pty Ltd.
CEO and Principal Consultant
Jason joined the SBD Drilling team in February 2021 after 30 years working in the global mining and energy sectors. His mandate is to firmly establish SBD Drilling as the leading provider of RC drilling and related services in West Africa by building a team and culture for sustainable success.
Jason most recently served as the Chief Marketing Officer of Ferrexpo PLC from 2011 to 2020 overseeing significant growth of iron ore pellet sales from its Ukraine operations to Asian, European and North American markets. Prior to this, Jason held senior management roles in the Singapore marketing office of BHP Ltd as well as holding a variety of marketing and finance roles in the Rio Tinto Group. Over these years, Jason developed strong relationships with major steel producers in China, Japan, Korea, South East Asia and Europe who are once again showing keen interest to develop iron ore resources in West Africa. Jason received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and successfully completed the CPA program with the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants. Over the years he continued part-time studies in computer science as well as Chinese Mandarin at Edith Cowan University and Sydney University respectively. He has been a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors since 2014.
Jason is also the Managing Director of Atikin Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based management consulting business for the mining industry.

David ‘Stretch’ Mathieson
Operations and Technical Advisor
Stretch’s drilling industry experience began with Drillex in 1994 as a drill rig fitter based in Australia. From those early days, Stretch worked his way up to become Maintenance Manager (for Drillex and subsequently Ausdrill Northwest) in 2001, where he remained until 2006.
He then moved to offshore work with Gas Services International, working on drill platforms in the Gulf of Thailand and the Middle East from where he moved to West Africa to take up the position of Maintenance & Operations Manager – West African Operations for SBDG from 2007 to 2010. During this time Stretch was based at the Simandou project in Guinea, West Africa, and managed all SBDG’s operations in-country.
In June 2010, Stretch moved back to Western Australia to take up the position of General Manager for SBD Drilling before ultimately splitting his time between the current advisory work for SBDG and as Assembly Manager at Metzke in Perth.
West Africa Liaison Officer
Originally from Cote d’Ivoire, Fodé has been working with SBDG in a number of roles for almost a decade. He is well known to the mining community in Guinea due to his specialist skills in government liaison, business administration and human resources.
Fodé is based in SBDG’s Conakry office and splits his time working with Mediterranean Shipping Company (Guinee).
Fodé has a Master’s Degree in English from the University Julius Nyerere in Kankan.
