SBDG Services

RC Services

SBD Guinea has provided RC Drilling Services to African clients for over a decade. During this time we have operated mainly in Guinea, and have an office and registered Guinean branch.

We generally service the “high quality/large capacity” end of the African RC drilling market.
We offer a modern rig fleet and support equipment that is designed and built to cater to our client’s specific drilling requirements.

Our areas of drilling expertise are predominately Iron Ore and Gold, in both exploration and resource definition. The following specifications are achievable by SBD Guinea:

  • Hole depths (ground conditions permitting) to 400m
  • Controlled use of hi-pressure air (<2250cfm@1000psi)
  • 45° to 90° hole angles
  • 1,200cfm Sample System set up with Rotary Cone, Fixed Adjustable Cone or Riffle Splitter options.

SBD Guinea have RC experience on flat and mountainous terrain. Drill programs have ranged from remote, regional location, through to drilling in heavily congested open pits. As well as conventional RC programs, SBD Guinea is experienced in Grade Control and Dual Rotary drilling.

Diamond Services

SBD Guinea has experience in operating the Diamond drilling contract at Simandou. This involved the conversion of heli-rigs to track based rigs, and modification of these rigs to a hydraulic system.
Despite difficult ground conditions, SBD Guinea was able to achieve recoveries exceeding 95% using PQ, HQ and NQ drill rods.

Maintenance Services

SBD Guinea was solely responsible for the maintenance of Rio Tinto’s drill rigs, auxiliary air trucks, waterpumps and additional equipment at Simandou.

Rig Availability

In order to maximise productivity while operating in remote locations, SBD Guinea’s objective is to achieve rig availability of 90%. This is achieved as follows:

  • High presence of Mechanics on site
  • Recruitment of Supervisors and Drillers with Mechanical knowledge
  • Carrying stock of critical spare parts on site
  • Purchasing stock locally wherever possible
